Kausani is at an elevation of 1890 mts. above the sea level, and is exceptionally beautiful with lots and lots of scenic pleasure and charm. A majestic row of dozens of snow capped peaks, over 300 kms. in length and expanse, sparkles against the blue sky. The spectacle cannot be easily described in words, but the one adjective it does bring to lips is, ‘glorious’. When the sun’s rays make them in a shade of crimson and gold, the beauty is unmatched.
Mahatma’s Favorite
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, stayed here for 12 days in the year 1929 while writing his well-acclaimed commentary on the Gita-Ana-Shakti Yoga. He was, according to his own words, inspired by the heavenly charm and serenity of this place.
The place where Gandhi stayed, a guest house, is now known as the ‘Anashakti Ashram’.
Poetic Inspiration
Sumitra Nandan Pant, the great Hindi poet and littérateur was born at this majestic place called Kausani. Many of his early poems composed here have described nature, its beauty, the joy of being in its lap and its inspirational effects.
A Visitor’s delight
A peaceful and wonderful escape from the hurly-burly of always-on-the-run big cities, the place is a boon for those seeking calm and peace of mind. A must-visit for those coming to the mystical Kumaon, it will, in no way, be an exaggeration to say that this is Mother Nature’s own little abode.
Fairs and Festivals
The Uttarayani Mela, a huge crowd-puller, the 10-day Dusshera festival and the fair held on Kartik Purnima are among the biggest festivals of the region. These are celebrated with great zeal and are very well-managed by the local bodies with help of the residents.
