Binsar, 380 kms away from Delhi, is located on top of the Jhandi Dhar Mountains. The place is surrounded by thick vegetation and forest on all sides and has all the elements required to make is special in the true sense of the word.
The History
The little hamlet of Binsar served as capital of the Chand Raj kings who ruled in the 7th and 8th centuries. In those ancient times, King Kalyan built the famous Shiva Temple called Bineswar.
The Surroundings
The colour green holds sway all around. The sight of rocks covered with wet moss and moist ferns and foliage emerging out of every little corner lends a musical touch to the whole experience of being here. Oak, Pine and Deodar are among the species of trees that grow in abundance here. The entire area has now been designated the status of a sanctuary.
Attractions
The Binsar wild life sanctuary
Spread over an area of about 50 sq. Kms, the sanctuary is in the mid-Himalayan region. Leopards, deer and wild boar are routinely sighted here and the flora is diverse too.
Jageshwar
This temple town, famous for the 12 Jyotirlingas, is 65 kms away from Binsar. The temples here are dedicated to the various manifestations and avatars of Lord Shiva. The place has immense value from the point-of-view of religious-minded people.
Patal Bhuvaneshwar
An underground cave complex which is over 6000 years old is located here. The spot offers strikingly beautiful views of the snowy summits of Himalayas and the green valleys.

Getting there
The nearest airport is at Pantnagar, 127 km away and the nearest railway station is located at Kathgodam at a distance of 85 kms.
Rod-connectivity is fairly good as Almora, 30 km from Binsar, is a district headquarters and the capital city of Delhi is also not very far away, only 380 kms. from here.
